Formation of tissue fluid due to hydrostatic pressure in capillaries and re-entry of water due to water potential gradient, by osmosis. This is what results in outflow of water and solutes on the arterial side of the capillary and flow of solutes back into the capillary at the vein side. Excess tissue fluid enters the lymphatic vessels forming the fluid called lymph. Within these vessels there are high numbers of lymphocytes and high levels of carbon dioxide, but low levels of nutrients and oxygen. Lymph vessels converge and eventually drain into veins that take blood back towards the heart.
