Beating SSR5 All Stars with 343hp Supra (Gran Turismo 2)

Gran Turismo All Stars is back, and this time we're at Special Stage Route 5. While the AI can occasionally make silly mistakes on this track, they're generally very competent and drive decently fast. I'd say this is probably the most difficult of the five races to win, with Rome not far behind. This ended up being one of the most exciting races I've done for the challenge series so far. I decided to go for something slightly more powerful this time around, which gave me the opportunity to use the racing modified '96 Supra SZ-R. Its Super Yellow livery is eye-catching, to say the least. It's one of my favourite Supra liveries, up there with the purple '97 RZ. NA tuning stage 3, port polish and engine balancing bumped its power up to 343hp, which felt like just enough to squeeze out a win. The SZ-R's are lighter than the RZ's, but they also have much narrower power bands at high-RPM's. Engine balancing is a must for the SZ-R's; it moves the rev limiter forward, allowing you to gear up later for better acceleration. One nice thing about racing modified Supra's is their above-average downforce. Setting the front to max and the rear around 0.60 gives very solid turning ability, as long as you can control it. All Supra's have a tough time dealing with wheelspin when launching and exiting corners, but proper gear setup helps a lot. Treat this car like you're playing GT1: don't floor it out of corners too early. This race took me a couple days to put together, mainly due to recording issues. I'm not sure what's going on, but OBS really doesn't like the final sector of this track, as it tends to drop frames and lag out for a second or so. I had to use some replay b-roll on lap 5 to cut away from some of the lag spikes, so apologies for the sudden transitions. This race was too entertaining to discard. Music used: after night - Akihisa Yamaguchi Disco Ball - Hiroshi Okubo (from Ridge Racer PSP) calm calm - Tyme. I played NTSC-U GT2 on DuckStation with 60 FPS, 16:9 and metric conversion codes.
