In this video I did some initial head alignment to the outfeed table and re-attached and tested the motor for my Buss Machinery Company 8" jointer restoration project. As part of that I realized that one of the blades is not set square in the head assembly, and that could explain the choppiness of the cuts I was getting in my initial tests. ie one side of one blade is sticking out almost 1/64 to 1/32 less than the other, so that is not square and would cut weird, and make noise while cutting. I will have to try and fix alignment issue that after I make the head bolt removal tool so I can swap the existing dinged up blades with the new set that I got with the jointer. I did need to replace one of the 3/8" cord clamp connectors that held the cord into the motor housing box, as the old one broke. Luckily I had spares in the garage. Yay for too much stuff everywhere. The biggest issue though is in the circled sections in the thumbnail picture. When cleaning up the head, i noticed on each side below where the shaft sits, there was a large caked in section of sawdust...well I figured out what that had been doing there...it was holding in the oil that leaks out around the shaft....especially on the motor side. So I am hoping someone more familiar with these babbet bearings will have an aha moment and share the fix for that...as it is not usable like it is, as the oil will drip out everywhere and get all over the motor, and then likely the belt, and then fly all over and make a mess.
