Like a few of my other FE3H arrangements, I made this one into a character study, this time of Claude von Riegan. I mean, the most iconic moment in that dance cutscene is when he comes over and gives you that cheeky wink while taking your hand, plus during his support convo at the goddess tower he grouses about hating parties and engaging in the stuffy dances of the nobility while boasting of his prowess on the dance floor, so naturally I had to retool this classic little waltz to suit a dashing, snarky iconoclast like him haha. Which meant, of course, adding a bunch of spicy chords and the next thing I knew the whole thing turned into a jazz waltz lol...it's half Vince Guaraldi, half Bill Evans, and a dash of Stevie Wonder--jazz aficionados out there will definitely recognize a section from Alice in Wonderland with Guaraldi embellishments and a cadence borrowed from Lately--which starts out slow, draws in some sexy romantic piano moments for the statement of the Garreg Mach theme, then returns reharmonized and uptempo to the end. I like to think of it as Claude ditching the school dance and absconding to a jazz club lol. He's exactly the type to dig post-bop modal jazz, R&B, and new jack swing hahaha. Anyways I really had a lot of fun writing and playing this one, and glad I was able to record it and get it out tonight before having to make mashed potatoes and stuffing for 30 people tomorrow gahhh--happy Thanksgiving guys!!
