ABOUT THE MUSIC CENTER'S SPOTLIGHT GRAND FINALE The Music Center's Spotlight Grand Finale features an evening of unforgettable performances by our 14 Spotlight Grand Prize Finalists at The Music Center's Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Join us to celebrate the culmination of a multi-faceted year-long journey by these incredibly talented high school artists who are part of the Spotlight program. 00:00 Introduction by Luca Mendoza 00:26 Interview with Erica Wang 02:31 Erica Wang performs "Fantaisie" by Philippe Gaubert ABOUT ERICA WANG Erica Wang, 17, is a senior at Canyon Crest Academy. She studies flute with Pam Martchev and Linda Chesis. As the principal flutist of the National Youth Orchestra of the USA (NYO-USA 2022), she has performed at Carnegie Hall and toured Europe under the direction of Daniel Harding. Erica is a Wm. Haynes Co. International Young Artist. Awards include: the National Flute Association High School Soloist Competition’s Deveau Scholarship (2020); Goodlin Scholarship Competition, 1st place (2022); and San Diego Flute Guild Youth Artist Competition, 1st place (2019). Erica has participated in the Beyond the Masterclass and the Domaine Forget International Music Festival. She has performed in masterclasses with Emmanuel Pahud, Julien Beaudiment, Jim Walker, Denis Bouriakov, Jennifer Gunn, and Demarre McGill. This is Erica’s second year participating in Spotlight. ABOUT SPOTLIGHT Much more than a competition, Spotlight provides performing arts scholarships and artistic development to empower high school students by emphasizing preparation, courage, critical thinking and perseverance while providing an invaluable opportunity for students to hone their skills! Southern California High School students of ALL skill levels are encouraged to apply for FREE. $100,000 in cash scholarships are awarded each year to students along with personalized feedback, eligibility for mastery classes with world-renowned artists and more! Categories include Acting, Ballet, Classical Instrumental, Classical Voice, Dance, Contemporary Instrumental Music and Non-Classical Voice.
