Black Mesa: Blue Shift - 01 - Living Quarters Outbound

Chapter 01: Living Quarters Outbound The time is 8:42a.m. Security officer Barney Calhoun boards a tram from the Topside Dormitories to begin a seemingly routine shift at the Black Mesa Research Facility, deep in the heart of the New Mexico Desert. Various unexpected system malfunctions cause delays in his ride, but Calhoun eventually makes it to his workplace at Sector C, where the science personnel seem anxious to start a highly anticipated experiment. GAME INFORMATION: ModDB page: https://www.moddb.com/mods/black-mesa... Playlist with all completed chapters:    • Black Mesa: Blue Shift (Full Playthro...   Notes: - Much like Black Mesa's recreation of the first chapter of HL1, Black Mesa: Blue Shift's (hereby shortened to BM:BS) opening tram ride significantly expands on its predecessor's (Half-Life: Blue Shift, hereby shortened to HL:BS). There are too many additions to list, but as examples: - Addition of a security station and guard at the first transition at 2:12 - Addition of a helipad and loading area at 3:39 - Addition of the security station at 5:50 - Barney does not have to keep knocking on the door for the guard to fix the keypad issue - it will eventually be resolved if Barney decides to just wait (7:38) Trivia: - HL:BS' opening tram ride is significantly shorter than BM:BS'. The original tram ride is approximately 3m40s in length, whereas BM:BS' is approximately 7m30s. This extended length is referenced by the scientist's dialogue at 4:18 - At the start of the tram ride, the time reads 8:42am. When Barney eventually arrives at the Level 3 Dormitories where Freeman is waiting for his own tram, the time reads 8:47am. Assuming the clock JUST changed to 8:42am. when the screen fades in at 0:15, it can be calculated that the clock should change time at 5:15 in the video. It can then be extrapolated that the clock should read 8:48am. a minute later in the video, at 6:15. However, the clock still reads 8:47am when it is shown at 6:36 - either the clock is running too slow in Sector C or I am just looking way too deep into this lol - The laundry room at 1:55 is callback to the same room in HL:BS, though the arcade machines are on the left of the room in the first game - If one is to noclip into the laundry room to view the arcade machines (2:00), it can be seen that the machine on the left is for a game called "Azure Sheep" while the one on the right is for "Hope of Rescue". Both are real-life mods based on Black Mesa. "Azure Sheep", is a re-imagining of the HL1 mod of the same name, currently in development but on pause, while "Hope of Rescue" appears to be an inactive mod - "Azure Sheep" is similarly developed by HECU Collective, who created Black Mesa: Blue Shift. "Hope of Rescue" was developed by Faber, who is a lead developer for HECU Collective For more info on each mod, please use the following links: Azure Sheep: https://www.moddb.com/mods/black-mesa... Hope of Rescue: https://www.moddb.com/mods/hope-of-re... - The return of Gus the Forklift driver at 3:24. For more information on the legendary Gus, see Marphy Black's video:    • Half-Life - Gus the Forklift Driver   - There were no railings at the food court in the original game. Proper fall protection has since been added (3:33) - The vendors in the food court ("Big Tony's Pizza, "Tesla's Tacos") are identical to the ones in HL:BS - A lot of the BMRF team's sideline dialogue during the tram ride is a direct callback to the original game's. For instance, the scientist's line at 3:37 is word for word identical. For a complete breakdown of the sideline conversations in the original game, please see Marphy Black's excellent video:    • Half-Life: Blue Shift - Tram Sideline...   - The area at 6:35 (Level 3 Dormitories) is the starting point in "Black Mesa Inbound" - Gordon Freeman can be seen waiting for his tram at 6:36. The tram he rides first appears at 6:27. He later rides past Calhoun at 8:08. Canonically, from Freeman's perspective, he sees Barney knocking on the door as he goes past him - The scientist that walks to the edge of the station platform at 6:56 is the same one that Freeman sees during his tram ride in "Black Mesa Inbound" - Barney can toss various objects at his colleagues, which elicits humerous remarks. However, soda cans (10:05) will clip right through bodies and cannot be used to irritate them CHAPTERS: 0:00 - Map 1: East Personnel Entrance 3:05 - Map 2: Area 9 Security Checkpoint 5:46 - Map 3: Area 3 Security
