Pothi Vecha Cover & Breakdown | Ilaiyaraaja | Suvai Snippets ep 9 | பொத்தி வச்ச

An interesting detail revealed in this COVER/ breakdown analysis! Thanks: Francis Xavier for the Tabla sound samples! Original Song: பொத்தி வச்ச மல்லிகை மொட்டு | Pothi Vecha Malligai Mottu Composer: Ilaiyaraaja Singers: S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, Janaki Note on instruments used: ====================== (1) The initial 2 lines of tine is by violins in the actual song, but I used a synth to recreate that portion here, since a suitable violin virtual instrument was unavailable to me. (2) The Harp part shown here may not have been played by an actual harp in the actual song, but probably a harp-like sound on a synthesizer/ synthesizer pads. (3) The rest of the lines: Synth, bass, guitar, tabla, santoor are all actually used as such in the original song. Note on Counterpoint ====================== We know the famous "Counterpoint explanation" video showing the demo by Ilaiyaraja sir. Here it is:    • Ilaiyaraaja explains counterpoint   Two things to note: (1) Most Tamil film music has counterpoint, all composers use them. However, just like actor Rajini is famous for his style (even though all actors have their own styles), Maestro Ilaiyaraja is famous for his counterpoints (even though every composer uses counterpoints). (2) Counterpoint is composing multiple tracks of music (both instrumental and vocal) so that they sound good together. They sound harmonious together. They are independent in melody and rhythm, but harmonically they sound pleasant together.
