Without enough arms to equip servicemen suddenly heading Over There to fight the Central Powers the Ordnance Department adopted the U.S. Rifle, Caliber .30, Model of 1917 manufactured by Remington Arms of Delaware, it's subsidiary company Eddystone, and the Winchester Repeating Arms of New Haven, Connecticut, as a substitute standard issued-weapon for the American Expeditionary Force of the Great War.
