HOW TO CLEAN A BUNTAL STRAW HAT: 1. Fill a clean basin with warm water and a bit of the puretergent or other gentle liquid laundry detergent. 2. Put some detergent on a clean, wet washcloth. 3. With your soapy washcloth, sandwich the front and back of the grosgrain ribbon binding, gently running the washcloth back and forth over the ribbon. 4. Let soak no more than 15 minutes in your water-filled basin to release the dirt 5. Rinse hat in cool water. 6. Gently squeeze the water out, as if you were closing a fan, being careful to not break the straw fibers. 7. Let airdry on the showerhead in the bathroom. See where center back is? You don’t want to distort it! 8. Do not let your hat dry in direct sunlight. It will get discolored, similar to a suntan.
