Quick and Simple Polymer Clay Earrings.

This short video tutorial shows how to make a quick and simple polymer clay cane and turn slices into earrings. All the info you need to make your own is listed below, but to start with, sit back relax, and watch as the process unfolds. The music from the video is English Country Garden by Aaron Kenny and Waterfall by Aakash Gandhi, both available from the YouTube Free Audio Library. Here is the link to Conditioning Polymer Clay -    • Conditioning Polymer Clay Quickly - s...   Here is the link to creating Skinner Blends -    • Basic Skinner Blend Tutorial from Pol...   When I condition the polymer clay using my pasta machine I use setting 3, I do the Skinner Blend through setting 2, and the very thin sheet of clay is put through setting 9. For those rolling the clay by hand – setting 9 on my machine is 1 playing card thickness, setting 3 is 5 cards and setting 2 is 6 cards thickness. The Polymer Clay I am using is FIMO Soft, but all well known brands of polymer clay will work well with this technique. I have used 1/4oz (7g) of White, Agate and Peppermint as one blend, Raspberry, Rose, and Lilac as the other. The thin layer of clay is 1/2oz (14g) of Plum. For the green /blue pair of earrings, I used the same blue colour blend as above, then White, Sunflower Yellow and Apple Green for the second blend. The thin sheet of clay was done in Brilliant Blue. Equipment. • I work on a flat nonporous ceramic tile and bake on a smaller tile. • I use a polymer clay blade to slice the clay, and a clay roller to roll it. • I condition and create thin sheets of polymer clay by using a pasta machine dedicated to Polymer Clay use. If you do not have a pasta machine, you can roll the clay to a desired thickness, by having 2 equal stacks of playing cards either side of the clay, and rolling it till it reaches the height of the cards. • I use a needle to create a small hole in the clay. • To make the slices into earrings I added 2 jump rings, and a fishhook earring finding, put on with 2 pairs of small pliers. • I measure the clay sheet using a freely downloadable measuring sheet from www.printablepaper.net. I use the 4 squares to 1 inch one, which I laminate. You can also download a cm one. • When I bake/cure my clay, I always tent my tile in aluminium foil, which helps protect the clay should the oven spike in temperature. I use a small square of plain card beneath the earrings when baking, so the clay doesn’t touch the tile, and go shiny.
