But not the salty, messy kind of sailing. The luxe kind where, as Caleb says, everyone has power winches. When the weather from Hurricane Henri cleared, we had the opportunity to add Martha's Vineyard to our route and we jumped at the chance. We decided to keep the RV parked at our campground inland and book two nights at a hotel on the island. In our experience, spending at least one night (versus doing a day trip) is the best way to explore a place like this. Due to the size of Martha’s Vineyard, we thought two nights would be even better. Mobility is key to really experiencing the island. There are plenty of places to rent Jeeps, but we thought the convertible Mini Cooper was the way to go. Even Charlie agreed. We didn't get the sense that Martha’s Vineyard sees many RVers. Maybe that's because it’s a bit "buttoned up," as they say. (Translation: formal and expensive.) The food and lodging there aren’t cheap, but they’re good! If a laid-back island is more your scene, check out Block Island.
