While I personally haven't played Majora's Mask since I don't enjoy the gameplay of older Zelda titles, I've watched large portions of the game and have a deep respect for it and its themes and lore. The sense of impending doom, dread, and Link's journey to heal the world with the time he has left is something I vibe with deeply. I wanted to capture all the complex emotions this song brings when it plays in the final hours before moonfall, and I thought the best way to do that would be to go all-out and make a full symphonic metal version with inspiration from film score. This arrangement started back in 2021, but I wasn't able to to finish it until I got inspired this year thanks to Lorna Shore! The majority of this arrange was inspired by the band Fleshgod Apocalypse, who gave me the idea to have an operatic vocal blending with death and black metal influences. I'm SUPER happy with how that turned out, the vocal melody is one of my favorites I've ever written and Reven absolutely blew me away with her vocal prowess--she was the perfect vocalist for this vibe! The orchestral parts for this were quite a challenge since I have no clue what I'm doing when it comes to writing for orchestra, but I persevered and was able to get them sounding quite good I think--thanks to EastWest Composer Cloud, I was able to rent a full-quality film scoring orchestra library for a very low price and use it for this! I don't know what I would have done without that service since I don't have any good VST orchestra libraries due to them being prohibitively expensive haha. Overall, I'm extremely proud of this cover, and consider it one of my best arrangements--I truly hope I was able to capture the horror, the beauty, and the despair of the original and channel it into something you can headbang your face off to.
