2023 AWRCS Rd. 5 Fantasy Whitetail in Boyers, PA 50+A Holeshot to 2nd Place Battle w/ points leader.

I had been here once before - 2 years ago. It was dry then and faster. I remembered a few of the sections but not enough to link them together or know what was coming up so that was super challenging to lead. With 302 bikes on course it really got bad in a fast way. The first lap was awesome then it got so rutted up and where it wasn't rutted it was super slick, thick mud. I went back and forth a few times with the class point leader (in bright orange and yellow gear) and that was super fun. My last pass on him was on the hill climb at 44:30. I didn't know that at the time...until I watched the video. Then I lost my goggle roll-offs and couldn't see much of anything. When I stopped to fix them he passed me back and checked out on me. I struggled without good vision for too long but finally resigned myself to taking the goggles off. I wasn't the only one - as I don't think I've seen more riders without goggles than I did in this race. It was a nasty one for sure.
