Holy Balls! 2024 AWRCS Rd. 4 Hog Hunter II Centerville, PA Super Senior 50+ A

Wow, what a tough course ! Definitely not my type of conditions. I mean, the layout was awesome - but when you take what would be a faster, flowing course and put 6 inches of super slippery mud on top and develop foot+ deep ruts, full of roots, everywhere - it changes it all. Before the nitty gritty of the race though, I'd like to take a moment and say something about 3 young men who lost their life the night before this race day. I am torn regarding this because I don't feel I have any right to say anything - but I do have sorrow, sadness, empathy, and despondency over it. Rumors and stories about what they were doing is hearsay to me because I believe only they knew what was really happening. Nevertheless, we were told that a 17 and 19 year old, that were supposed to be racing this day - but would not be, were leaving the track the night before with another young man and all lost their lives in a terrible motor vehicle accident. As was mentioned by the race organizers and event invocator, we are a racing FAMILY, and this event will/does effect us all. As I have two kids in their mid 20's and also a pre-driving teen, this news weighed heavy on me - and still does. I am not religious, but do wish/think/consider (pray) for those families in their many days, and years of grief to come. And I also wish all of you that read this, as I now have, have a talk with your loved ones about being careful vs. reckless. I was definitely the latter in my younger years, so have some personal experience to speak from. But, like most things in life, we all want better for our kids. So I have some PIP at the start with the rear camera. That is until my first, of many, crashes when it gets bumped out of position. But I did get some good second turn crash aftermath that I barely avoided. As soon as we got into the woods though I realized I was not on the path that I wanted to be and had to cut through the woods to find the line I had scoped out earlier. That worked out and put me into 2nd chasing Pete once again. ugh It's super frustrating trying to get on the gas and just slipping around while watching someone pull away from you. When the front end gets too far away from me early on I drop back to play catch-up. I ended up falling early but not losing positions. I then got off-course and hit a small tree less than 7 mins in. I got passed while picking up my bike, and then repassed that guy at the top of the hill climb - when he got hung up. I'm pretty sure he said 'Nice Pass' and not 'You're an Ass'. ??? 11:25 in on the first lap shows where I ended up going off the track to the right on the third lap. I lost 5-6 minutes that lap getting out of the hole. I think I made up a couple positions by taking the 'Hard' line at 12:12. Some of this place got super slow going, like at 21-22:00 in. And I just realized watching this video for the first time - it looks so much smoother without the sound - which validates my feeling that the powerband of this bike is unfriendly to my riding style and this type of course. But I've got a couple ideas on how to fix that. 26:50 is the second hard/easy section. Since it was dry, I went for the hard route and made it with no issues. However, on the 2nd lap, I ended up getting held up by another rider and then going down into the gully on the left. Again, I lost 3-4 minutes going down the creek until I could get up out of that valley. Surprisingly, I came across the line in 4th out of 10 the first lap. I was 4th the 2nd lap as well. But then lost a position on the 3rd lap, probably down in the gully - when I was spent, and finishing in 5th. Bring on the fast, dry courses AWRCS huh !! ahahha Please give a thumbs-up and consider hitting that subscribe button if you like what you see / hear. If you don't - and feel like hitting the thumbs-down - how about leaving me some criticisms / feedback in the comments below instead ?? I can't fix it if you don't tell me. I can take it. hahaha Drop a message if you see yourself. And Thanks for watching. See you at the next one.
