Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department responds to a double trailer structure with heavy fire showing

JFRD responds to a mobile home fire with reports of explosions, reports of animals inside, and reports on scene of someone inside. Crews were met with heavy fire from the front of the structure and were impeded by a double roof. This was two single wide trailers sandwiched together with another roof built over that. This roof offered space for the fire to run from one end to the other rapidly. Because of the reports of possibly someone inside, the first in ladder crew, L30 worked their way around to the back of the home because of heavy fire at the front entrance. As they searched, the room they were in had no visible fire but rapidly increasing temperatures. The Captain used his experience and knowledge to get out of the house through a rear window. This proved to be a wise decision as the room flashed over within 5-10 seconds of their departure, avoiding potential disastrous injuries to both firefighters in that room. Command then made the decision to pull all crews out and fight this fire defensively. One person was transported from this fire with serious injuries...a dog was rescued unharmed, and three cats and a lizard remain unaccounted for. The cause of this fire is under investigation by the The Bureau of Fire, Arson, and Explosives investigations.
