How To Improve Hip Mobility | The Horse Stance

The Horse Stance is a fundamental position for improving hip mobility in the frontal plane of motion. I use some variation of Horse Stance work in all of my side splits programming. If you want to improve your hip flexibility, it's important to build a strong foundation in this position! In this video I go over an entry level approach to training the Horse Stance. By learning how to create isometric contractions on both sides of the joint, we'll be able to facilitate greater improvements in your range & positioning. The standard we want to work towards for strength & conditioning in this position is being able to hold isometrically for 2-3 minutes straight. Start with the 3 step stance, and expand into the 5 step stance once you're proficient. However, in the beginning stages you can break that 2-3 minutes up into as many sets as needed! Wherever you're starting from, we can build up from there. Aim to hit that 2-3 minute threshold about 3x/week, with a few days recovery in between.
