[作画 MAD/AMV] Toyoaki Emura (江村豊秋)

Toyoaki Emura was initially affiliated with Tatsunoko Productions, debuting as an Animator in Gowapper 5 Gordan #01 and as Animation Supervisor in ep #04, later working with Tokyo Movie and Pierrot. In Pierrot he had the opportunity to participate as an animator in the first OVA, Dallos, beginning his collaboration with Mamoru Oshii. In 1985 he became a freelancer. His next collaboration with Oshii was Angel's Egg, animating many sequences and showing his high abilities in realistic animation. In his work you can see a lot of emphasis on the weight distributed on the characters' bodies when making smooth movements and with a sensation of impressive three-dimensional volume, especially since he maintains the models at all times. He also made cuts in which there are rotations, again being examples of his extremely high abilities as an animator. Most of the staff asked what was inside the egg, but Emura was the only one who asked how much that egg weighed, saying that he couldn't draw it unless he knew. Emura had a collaboration with Ghibli, working as an Animator in Laputa and being in charge of vehicle scenes, doing rotations, drifts and keeping the models perfect while giving them dynamism with smooth movement and perspectives. His next big job was in Akira, being one of the most prominent animators. Having the opportunity to work under the supervision of Takashi Nakamura, Emura made very interesting frame modulations, animating in 1s moments of high speed or impact, and then creating combinations in which the different elements on the screen move at different timing, generating a very interesting feeling. Also present is the addition of 1 or 2 extra drawings in animated sequences in 2s or 3s, which completely changes the flow of movement to give a much smoother sensation of movement because Nakamura imposed that Disney-based approach for the film. Hiroyuki Okiura mentions that Emura taught him many things, for example to use perspective or to rely a lot on logic when creating Layouts. He continued collaborating with Nakamura and the followers of the realist school on projects such as Peter Pan no Bouken and Gosenzosama Banbanzai. His work on Gosenzosama being very notable as he completely mastered the approach in favor of movement that Satoru Utsunomiya expressed with his Animation Supervision. Like many talented animators, he was in the production of Jin-Rou under the strict supervision of Hiroyuki Okiura, although being such a homogenized project, it is difficult to know what his specific cuts are. His last two collaborations with Nakamura were Catnapped and Palme, both of which stood out for handling the designs very well while using realistic animation (influenced by Disney-Nakamura), full of rotations, frame modulations, volumetric sensation and smooth movements. His work in general usually has very solid animation, maintaining the models and at the same time giving them a great volumetric sensation either through the well-achieved perspectives he handles, or the sophisticated implementation of shading. This not only applied to the characters, but also to mechanical elements such as vehicles, being some of the best animated that will be seen in the industry due to a perfect consistency, dynamic movement with weight distribution depending on the direction of the vehicle, in addition to combining it with a very smooth background animation done in Full Animation, overall a work very similar to Telecom or Ghibli animators like Kenichi Yoshida. Animating in Full Animation is complicated due to the positioning of the drawings, but Emura is one of the most outstanding at animating in that timing, whether from individual elements in the cuts to generate a smooth flow or all the elements animated in that way and giving a work that doesn't feel at all unnatural, unlike many who try it.
