While most are removed via laparoscopic surgery, we chose an open approach, allowing a bit of practice with ligation and tying knots 🪢 (turns out he has a novel but working technique!). . We’ve had many conversations about the mischievous appendix and hypotheses on its mysterious role in our bodies. Do you have yours? . Spoiler alert: one surprising (and extremely rare) finding in our case at grossing - appendiceal myxoglobulosis, also known as “caviar appendix”. This variant of appendix mucocoele is characterized by numerous pearl-like balls filling the appendix, resembling fish eggs or frog spawn, and can cause a (very) cute appendicitis 😂 .
