Solution To An Artistic Ego - Hints For The Entertainment Industry Artist - Tips # 11

Let's address that artist ego of ours. Leaving your ego at the door is generally the best practice for artists working in the industry. Sure, a small amount of ego can be beneficial in the right situations since you constantly need to sell yourself and your work. But maintaining the balance between effectively promoting yourself and avoiding arrogance is critical for success. Collaboration is the heart of the creative industry. Generally, it’s a supervisor’s responsibility to create an environment where team members feel valued and unthreatened, but everyone needs to be focusing on the project’s success rather than their own personal satisfaction. When decisions are made to appease someone’s ego, the project typically suffers. But successful collaboration, where all team members contribute their expertise without letting their egos interfere, will lead to richer, more refined outcomes and score praise for everyone involved. As an artist, you have to be able to focus on problem-solving and figure out what isn’t working so you can fix it. Of course, this means being honest about the needs of the project and truly wanting to do the best for the project, and not just what’s best for you. You can always indulge your ego in personal projects in your own time – in fact, you should, since personal projects can help you develop your skills and can open doors to more fulfilling opportunities that are closer to your interests. But remember, professional work demands a team-oriented mindset. Self-awareness is the key to keeping your ego in check in a collaborative environment. You have to be honest with yourself about your skills and contributions, learn to read the room and participate in discussions without dominating conversations. Take the idea of collaboration even further and work with a friend to give each other signals if your egos start to rise up. Because we can always reach our goals faster if we’re working together. Again, some self-promotion is going to be necessary, and this can be hard if you’re naturally shy. So there will be times when you’ll need to talk about your achievements and a little ego can help you overcome imposter syndrome and give you the self-confidence to help make a positive impression. But remember, a little goes a long way, so don’t overdo it. Finding this balance will get easier as you gain experience. As the years go by and you get better at your craft, you won’t need the ego as a self-confidence crutch, because your work will speak for itself. There’s much more in the video, so have a look as I dive deeper into what it really means to leave your ego at the door. And did I forget anything? Let me know in the comments below!
