Billy Milligan Multiple Personality Footage | Guest Appearance - 45701 Athens OH

   • ★★★★★ Billy Milligan Documentary (Rar...   6-minute clip from documentary with interviews with author Daniel Keyes, Billy Milligan, Dr. David Caul, Dorothy Moore (Milligan's mother) http://BillyMilliganDocumentary.com http://45701.com http://BillyMilliganPaintings.org Billy Milligan 24-multiple personality -- subject of the recently-announced Leonardo DiCaprio feature film "The Crowded Room" (in pre-production) to be based on Daniel Keyes' book, The Minds of Billy Milligan (published in 1981.) This is not a Billy Milligan interview but, instead, a cameo appearance by Milligan in the local dramatic TV series made in 1984 in Athens, Ohio. In 1984, while being treated at the Athens Ohio Mental Hospital, Billy Milligan made a guest appearance in the controversial, 15-part local Athens Ohio "soap opera" entitled, "45701." Milligan was given script approval and his two short scenes were taped secretly, late at night, in isolated locations, with minimal crew in order to avoid gawkers and onlookers. NOTE: To save time, Billy had drawn and completed most of the portrait of Alan before the scene was taped. He worked from a publicity photo, sensibly replacing a cigarette in Alan's hand with a wine glass. Then, during the videotaping, he began the first strokes of a new sketch on a blank page of his drawing tablet and then switched to the almost-completed drawing to put in some final touches and to sign the finished piece. (Just part of the magic of movie-making.) FOR CONTEXT -- IN THE STORYLINE the main character, Alan Starr, is "on the run" from the police and has been living out in the local countryside after having been falsely accused of kidnapping/murder. This is why he is rushing in late at night to pick up his mail from his post office box and why he doesn't want to be spotted through the windows of the Post Office while talking to Billy. NOTE: One reason the series was controversial is because it turned its characters loose in the real community while inviting public figures (such as the mayor, city council members, the Ohio University president, a local judge) to appear as themselves in the series. The series incorporated local events and news items into the storyline, but with a twist. So the public often became confused and angry with not quite knowing what was real and what wasn't. The characters in the series thought they were real people. So Alan Starr always contended that 45701 was not a soap opera but a "documentary" about his life. (This is why he corrects Billy in the post office when Milligan refers to it as a soap opera.) Because of Alan's problem with thinking he's a "real person" and believing the series is a "documentary" about him, an angry viewer wrote a letter to the editor of one of the local papers suggesting that perhaps the actor playing Alan Starr was suffering from something called Character Transfer Syndrome. This is what Alan wants to talk to Billy about. Late at night, in the city parking garage, Milligan sketches a portrait of Alan Starr while counseling him on his possible affliction with "Character Transfer Syndrome." Milligan was affable, had a sense of humor, and was fun to work with. In 1985, a 2-hour documentary about Milligan entitled, "Billy" was created.
