In the scalp it presents with recurrent scaling of the scalp and it can be very socially a problem of patients who have it and also it can embarrass the person when they are meeting people. So in such people when you want to colour their hair, you know hair colour is a chemical often causing irritation to the scalp, though we say ammonia free hair colour, we are sure that they have some amount of chemicals that irritate the scalp and psoriasis by nature being an inflammatory condition , anything which irritates the scalp, naturally makes psoriasis much worse. So if you unfortunately have grey hair and if you have psoriasis, your options become more limited, number one make sure that you are choosing PPD free hair colour. PPD is a chemical that causes a lot of irritation to the scalp and see if you can avoid it. There are lot of organic hair colour that are PPD free. But remember in organic hair colours, some patients may have allergy to them. So you have to do a patch test and usually these boxes come with patch tests and the instructions come with a patch test on it. First do a patch test and then you go ahead with a hair colour. Second thing is make sure that your psoriasis of the scalp is treated well. So there are many foam based as well as topical steroid lotions which you can apply that can harm down your scalp for 3 to 4 days before the hair dye application which can prevent any exacerbation of rashes when you are doing the treatment itself, the third thing is post hair colour make sure that your treatment of psoriasis continues aggressively for atleast 3 to 4 days so that there is no exacerbation of psoriasis. These small tips will make sure that your psoriasis as well as your hair colour stays good.
