Side Thrust Kick Workout 😊👊🏽🥋

Side Thrust Kick Workout 🥋🥋🥋 This short video shows a typical workout I would do to improve my side kicks and warm up my hips as well as strengthening the kicking muscles. Aim to perform each of the NUMBERED exercises 4 times each minimum and up to 10 times each if desired, and if you are an experienced karateka. Do not rest for long between the exercises. Suggested time to rest in between exercises would be 20 seconds or less. When you get strong and experienced enough, increase the number of repetitions. The video shows the number of each exercise at the top right of the screen. Pause if needed to finish each exercise. Here are the exercises: 1. Knee Lift Switiching. Make sure to keep base foot flat on the floor as you lift the knee. Aim to fully lift the knee to the highest point. 2. Front Kick (snap or thrust) Switiching. Make sure to keep back foot flat on the floor as you kick. 3. Axe Kick Switiching. Make sure to keep base foot flat on the floor as you swing the leg up. Aim to fully lift the knee to the highest point. Keep the leg straight. 4. Freestyle Roundhouse Kick Preparation Switching. Lift the knee up and pivot on base foot to roundhouse kick preparation. 5. Freestyle Roundhouse Kick Switching. Lift the knee up and pivot on base foot to roundhouse kick. 6. Side Thrust Kick Preparation Switching. Lift the knee to its highest point making sure the knee points upwards at an angle and pivot on the base foot at the same time. 7. Side Thrust Kick Switching. Lift the knee to its highest point making sure the knee points upwards at an angle, pivot on the base foot at the same time and then execute the side thrust kick. 8. Front Kick Active Stretching using a chair for stability. Swing the leg similar to the Axe Kick in front and allow it to swing to its highest point behind you. Repeat other leg. 9. Front Kick to Side Kick Active Stretching using a chair for stability. Swing the leg similar to the Axe Kick in front and allow it to swing to its highest point to the side as you open up the hips to allow this. Repeat other leg. 10. Leg Lift Over Chair Switching in a reverse crescent motion. 11. Leg Lift Over Chair Switching in a crescent motion. 12. Lift the Leg & Hop a few times keeping it up over two chairs. Repeat other left. Lift in a crescent kick motion. 13. Using two chairs, lift knee high holding onto the front chair, open up the hip and twist the base foot to allow the lifting leg to turn so that it’s horizontal with the floor before lifting over the other chair to the side. Repeat going the opposite direction. Repeat other left. 14. Deep Squat & Stand to Side Thrust Kick Preparation before dropping into deep squat again. Repeat other leg. 15. Deep Squat & Stand to Side Thrust Kick before dropping into deep squat again. Repeat other leg. 16. Squat & Stand to Side Thrust Kick Preparation before squatting again and repeat other leg. 17. Squat & Stand to Side Thrust Kick before squatting again and repeat other leg. Now, perform the HIP OPENING exercises on the video as shown. Warm Up the Side Thrust Kicks as you lie on the floor. Repeat both legs. Finally, execute SIDE THRUST KICKS at varying speeds before executing at FULL SPEED & POWER. Some KEY POINTS as you practice the kicks and some of the above exercises: 1. Recoil as fast as possible as you improve your ability, strength and kicks. 2. In Shotokan, Side Snap or Thrust Kicks are usually executed with Back Fist so practice this as you train making sure to keep the arm parallel with the kick. 3. Listen to your body and rest longer between exercises if required. 4. STOP if you feel any abnormal pain and make sure you are turning the base foot fully to avoid knee injury. 5. Start off slow and build up speed. NEVER JUST KICK FAST without practice or experience. 6. Wear your full karate suit when training kata combinations. 7. Film yourself performing everything and watch it back for good form.
