Dr. Max Martin, a Fellow in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, reviews his article appearing in the September 2023 issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings, where he describes the selection criterion used at a single institution for patients with advanced emphysema to potentially receive bronchoscopic lung volume reduction. The purpose of the analysis was to demonstrate a real-world example of bronchoscopic lung volume reduction patient selection, with an emphasis on the pre-procedural process, reasons for inclusion or exclusion, and outcomes.
