World Trade Center Survivor Joe A., and FDNY Responder Bill S. share their personal stories of September 11th in their 9/11 Tribute Museum presentation of We Were There on stage at the National September 11th Memorial Museum. Joe began working in the WTC in 1986 and was on the 72nd floor of the South Tower in both the 1993 and 2001 attacks. When the announcement was made for workers to go back to their offices after the plane hit the North Tower, Joe's defiance saved his life. Escaping through the shopping center underground, Joe went home that night to his tearful friends and family. Bill was a former police officer and a firefighter at the time of the attacks. As people were rushing out of the buildings, Bill was rushing in to the building to help and provide light to those coming. Bill’s quick-thinking is what got him out of the building just a few moments before they collapsed, and he was able to return home to his wife and two sons.
