Laos Secret War Pilot: Lee Gossett

In this video Lee Gossett talks about his time flying during the Secret War in Laos as an Air America kicker and pilot and then as a Continental Air (CASI) pilot flying secret missions in this brutally violent war. Gossett spent six and a half years flying in Laos during the secret war. Lee has led a lifetime of adventure as a smoke jumper and clandestine pilot for the U.S. intelligence community in Asia, Central and South America, and Africa. Most of Air America’s missions in Southeast Asia were for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) as Air America was a CIA proprietary. Lee has a book "Smokejumper to Global Pilot: A True Odyssey" found here https://www.amazon.com/Smokejumper-Gl... In this video you’ll see very rare Lao War photos from Lee’s collection, listen to his stories, and hear about his flying an NBC documentary crew around Laos during the war and a quick clip from the documentary flying his Pilatus Porter. Gossett flew 5,000 accident-free hours and had over 9,000 landings. In late 1971, NBC news sent a team to Laos to film a documentary about the war called CHRONOLOG which was aired in the US. (The NBC film crew was at Luang Prabang about the 7-10 Dec 1971. The documentary aired March 1972.) The U.S. Embassy gave the NBC team permission to enter Long Tieng, LS-20A, the first time a news team had been allowed there. Lee Gossett was assigned as the pilot to fly in his CASI porter the NBC film crew around to various Hmong villages while they filmed the documentary. Another set of pilots, the clandestine U.S. Air Force Ravens, flew in Laos with one of the highest casualty rates of the entire Indochina War. You can see videos on them Ravens I: Mission and Men    • The Ravens Part I: Mission and Men   and Ravens II: Their Stories    • Ravens Part II: Their Stories  . You can also learn more on the Secret War in Laos from Dr. Carter's video "What was the Secret War in Laos?"    • What was the Secret War in Laos?  . John Horan, gracious financial benefactor and supporter to memorializing Lao War veterans, sponsor of the The Lao-Hmong Memorial in Colorado, says: "I've seen and read a lot on the U.S. Secret War and your video is the most complete and concise review of all." The United States Air Force Museum at Dayton Ohio says this video is the most accurate and complete account of the Laos Secret War. ‪@CarterOnConflict‬
