Stymied by injuries and pushed to the brink of playoff elimination by a pair of close season-ending losses, the defending Super Bowl Champion Redskins rediscovered their winning ways to upset the Minnesota Vikings in the ’92 NFC Wild Card Game at the Metrodome. Brian Mitchell carried the day – the whole team, really – with 200 all-purpose yards including a spectacular kick return, a rushing touchdown, and a second quarter fake punt run from which the Vikings never recovered. After staging an impressive 79-yard game-opening touchdown drive, the Vikings were history as the Redskins defense held Minnesota to only 69 yards for the rest of the game (including just NINE YARDS in the second half). The victory would be the last for Joe Gibbs 1.0, as the Redskins would lose yet another close one in San Francisco the following week. Gary Clark caught his last Redskins TD as well in this contest that truly marked the end of an era for Washington football.
