Assetto Corsa: 1970 BRM P153 at 60s Suzuka

By 1969 BRM was in complete disarray. The H16 disaster had set the team back multiple years, and lead designer Tony Rudd was also struggling to make a competitive aero package. By mid season, team owner Sir Alfred Owen made the decision to release Rudd and hired Tony Southgate, formerly of Lola and Eagle. Southgate had a knack for building simple chassis that handled well, and it was believed that with a more traditional 3 liter V12, the team could at least build a competitive car. Yardley sponsorship was acquired for 1970, giving Southgate are rather sizeable budget to build whatever he needed in house. Southgate decided on a lower, flatter monocoque body, which Pedro Rodriguez described as a much more pleasant car to drive, but the new V12 was the cars achilles heel. In one of the few instances in which the car didn't break down, Pedro Rodriguez was able to score a victory at the Belgian Grand Prix. The car was a massive step in the right direction though, and lessons learned from the P153 went into the much more successful P160. https://f3classictracks.sellfy.store/   / posts
