NJASA's 2022 Distinguished Service Award Winners

Join me in paying tribute to NJASA's 2022 Distinguished Service Award winners. Hi, I’m Richard Bozza, Executive Director of NJASA and I’m proud to showcase these individuals and their accomplishments with you. Dr. Scott Rocco is Chief Education Officer of the Hamilton Township School District in Mercer County. Dr. Rene Rovtar is Chief Education Officer of the Montville Township School District. Dr. Charles Sampson is Chief Education Officer of the Freehold Regional School District. Dr. Scott Rocco is Past President of NJASA and Co-Chair of the NJASA Technology Committee and TECHSPO Program. He also chaired or co-chaired the Membership and Spring Leadership Conference Committees. His creative outreach to the school community during COVID was a model for other districts. His ability to positively and productively enhance education through technology and social media is an inspiration to all. Dr. Rocco is working for fair and equitable opportunities for all students, educators, and communities through our initiative, NJASA 4 Equity. Our second DSA recipient, Dr. Rene Rovtar, is a past member of the NJASA Executive Committee. She is one of two Morris County representatives to the NJASA Government Relations Committee. Under her leadership, the Montville Township Public School District has been named a nationally recognized District of Character. She also has made an impact in her community. She is founder of One Montville, a community organization that advocates for acceptance, respect and kindness. A lifelong learner, Dr. Rovtar has a passion for helping others grow professionally. She has served as mentor to novice superintendents and she presents at state and national conferences. Our third DSA recipient, Dr. Charles Sampson, serves as one of the Monmouth County representatives to the NJASA Executive Committee. He has been recognized nationally and locally for his work in educational leadership, Phi Delta Kaplan, and the League of Innovative Schools. He established an Aspiring Administrative Cohort with Montclair State University, where he also serves as an adjunct professor. Dr. Sampson has served in many leadership positions, including as president of both the Monmouth County Superintendents’ Roundtable and the Garden State Coalition of Schools. We congratulate all three Chief Education Officers for these well-deserved honors. Follow NJASA for the latest news and information on New Jersey’s public schools. Until next time, thank you for watching. For more information visit: https://www.njasa.net/
