NJASA, NJAPSA and Frontline Education recognize outstanding leaders in special education... …and this year’s award recipient is Dr. Frank Mauriello, Director of Special Services for the Verona Public Schools. Dr. Mauriello has served the special education community for 22 years as teacher, social worker, and administrator. He is known for his commitment to serving the unique needs of each student. Dr. Mauriello established a robust special education program in Verona that enables students to remain in their home district rather than being sent out. He guided the special education department through the pandemic, with students engaged in virtual, hybrid and modified in-person instruction. He spearheaded the district’s mental health program for special education and general education students. Dr. Mauriello is a frequent presenter on special education issues, and works to share best practices. He has cultivated an environment in Verona based on mutual respect and collaboration.
