In this video I show you how I work with a bench peg. I’m not saying that it’s the best way to work but it works for me and I think that it will help some folks, particularly hobby jewellers. I have made what I would call a horse, (a carpenter uses a transportable work platform called a ‘horse,’ usually two of them at a time to support timber.) I show a sketch with dimensions of what I have towards the end of the video. Make sure that you make yours high enough to allow the full movement of your saw, and that you don’t rub your knuckles on the vertical timber. Make sure that the front foot of the horse is about 1-1/2” - 3.5cm nearer to you than the vertical centre line of the saw blade and that you have 3 felt pads to triangulate the base. This horse could be an asset to hobby jewellers who need to clear up at the end of a making session as it can be used anywhere, even on holiday! There’s no need to use thick timber. ½” or 8mm or 10mm plywood or old pallet timber would do, old floorboard would be great. If you can glue and screw it, it’ll be even better. If you use thin timber cut out a rectangle of timber to go in the hole in the structure and fix it in place to create a ridged assembly. If you have any problems, contact me and I’ll do what I can to help you. Subscribe to catch more ideas and follow what I’m making. Kind regards . . . Andy
