THE most fundamental hockey skating mechanic (Corkscrew)!! [1/9]

The corkscrew is THE most fundamental skating mechanic out of the 9 fundamental mechanics that are used by the best hockey players in the world (1/9) Not only because it is one of the most used mechanics in game and its use cases are endless but also because it is the foundation on which the other fundamental skating mechanics are built on! 🔑 Corkscrew cues (not in order) 1. Width - At least double shoulder width 2. Heel pressure and shin angle - Focus on cutting with your heels and having your knee over your toe. 3. Hip twist - Only way to generate speed when wide is through rotation. Focus on twisting your hips to generate your momentum. it should look like you're hips are wiggling (Like Mcdavid in the first clip) 4. Feet stagger and swap (rocker) - When performing the corkscrew your feet should not remain parallel (from the side), they feet should always be slightly staggered. Meaning one foot is in front of the other, and they should constantly swap positions. - left foot is in front → moves back, as the - right foot that is behind → moves forward and so on. What you will notice, is the front foot will have aggressive heel pressure and the back foot good shin angle. For more on staggering in the corkscrew ➡️    • KEY Corkscrew and Reverse 10&2 cues! ...   (~ 4 min mark) 5. Ankles relaxed and collapsed in (inside edge y-angle) More on Y-angle ➡️    • Get more grip, tighter movement AND s...   6. Last but certainly not least - RELAX!!!! - The corkscrew should feel loose and relaxed. work on your corkscrew by eliminating tension throughout your entire body, from your ankles, hips, core, shoulders… Even your face! Advice: Don’t try to manually make c-cuts. The corkscrew is a dynamic movement not an “edge work” drill. The c-cut will automatically happen, when you have 1. Good y-angle 2. heel pressure and 3. hip rotation. The corkscrew is the first out of this 9 part series on the fundamental mechanics! 🔥 Subscribe for the next 8! _____________________________________________ SUBSCRIBE for more skating & hockey mechanics content!!
