The Shadow made it's debut as an unbranded ride for the 2018 Stab In The Dark project where the criteria was for a 5'10 1/2 board for a 165lb rider roughly 5'10 tall, for good but not hugely powerful conditions (the randomly picked pilot for the test turned out to be none other than 3 times ASP World Champion Mick Fanning!) As one of the most prolific and successful shapers around, Jon wanted to create something new and exciting but knew his start point would be the Pyzel Phantom the tried and tested step down version of John John's legendary Ghost. The Shadow is blessed with all the advantages of a wide-point-forward shortboard but with a contemporary sleek and finely tuned outline suited to today's modern attack. "The Shadow features our version of a high performance outline, but with the wide point at centre not behind. We pulled in the nose by almost a ½ inch and added some extra rocker through the last 12’’ in the nose to keep it free through critical turns. It has a gentle hip for looseness and the squash tail is pulled in to help tighten the turning radius and improve its vertical capabilities." - Jon The Shadow runs with an almost identical rocker and set of concaves to the Phantom (if it ain't broke...don't fix it!) which has proven itself in everyday conditions around the world.
