Suspect Steals Pickup Truck in Front of Georgia Troopers and Leads Them On a Pursuit Into Alabama

On 7/17/2022, at approximately 2146 hours, TFC Love and I, TFC Williams, were sitting stationary side by side with our windows down at the Civic Center Entrance, facing north located at the intersection of Victory Drive and Veterans Parkway. While sitting stationary, I observed a black male yelling from the Circle K Gas Station, "AYE, AYE, AYE, while waving his arms in a help motion and running towards a black pickup truck. TFC Love and I activated our emergency lights and siren, traveling towards the frantic male as he is continuing yelling and running after the black pickup truck. One I arrived closer towards the male, he began pointing towards his truck indicating his vehicle was just stolen. With my emergency equipment still activated, I was able to catch up to the black pickup truck, traveling in the left lane on US Highway 280, traveling west. I discovered the make and model of the vehicle once I got closer, which was a black GMC Sierra. Once I attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle traveled into Alabama. As the vehicle traveled across state lines, the vehicle traveled from the right lane from the left lane and traveled on the Exit Ramp to go northbound on Broad Street Extension. Once on Broad Street Extension, the driver continued traveling at a high rate of speed and ran a red traffic signal at the intersection of Broad Street Extension and 6th Street. The driver continued traveling north and failed to stop at a red traffic signal at 12th Street and 13th Street before turning left onto 13th Street to travel west. The driver continued traveling west going through a red traffic signal at the intersection of 13th Street and 14th Street. The driver continued traveling west on 13th Street and made a right onto Opelika Road, traveling north. Once on Opelika Road, the driver began improperly passing traffic in the center turning lane and ran a red traffic signal at the intersection of US 280 and Dobbs Drive. After traveling through the intersection, the driver began traveling in the grass on the right shoulder, passing two vehicles before crossing the double yellow center line in a curve. The driver continued traveling on Opelika Road until it turned onto Lee Road 430. The driver turned left onto County Road 246 and traveled west. Once the driver reached County Road 298, the driver made a left turn on County Road 246 traveling south. The driver continued traveling down County Road 246, failing to stop at a stop sign at County Road 179. The driver continued traveling south traveling down a dirt road before coming to a stop. Once TFC Love and I gained visual of the vehicle on the dirt road, I observed the driver side door open and the vehicle blocking the dirt road just before a narrow bridge. TFC Love and I waited for a Law Enforcement Officer from Alabama to arrive before approaching the vehicle. Once a Lee County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived on scene, the Deputy, TFC Love , and I cleared the vehicle. After clearing the vehicle, I contacted Troop D Communication by cell phone and advised them of the situation and to have a Trooper contact the owner who was last seen at the Circle K Gas Station. When more Lee County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on scene, Lee County used their K-9 to track the driver. Deputy Walton along with his K-9 found the driver in the woods hiding. Deputy Walton placed the female driver into custody and walked her back towards the patrol vehicles. The driver was later identified by her Alabama Driver’s License as Brittany Nicole Hodge, with a date of birth of / /1992. Hodge was wanted out of Russell County, Lee County, Phenix City, Montgomery County, Alabama, and Georgia. Hodge’s Driver’s License was also suspended, and she was in possession of meth located inside her purse along with a syringe. Lee County Sheriff’s Deputies transported Hodge to the Lee County Jail. Columbus Police Department transported the owner of the vehicle to the scene of the stolen vehicle. Once on scene, the owner stated while he was inside the store, he observed his vehicle driving away. The owner also stated he observed TFC Love 862, and I sitting across the street and began yelling to get our attention. Hodge was charged with possession of drugs by Lee County, Alabama, and a warrant was issued by the Columbus Police Department for Theft By Taking Motor Vehicle and TFC Williams 819 for Felony Fleeing And Attempting To Elude.
